Our Dogs

Since Support Dogs was formed in 1993, we have trained over 200 dogs to be Fully Qualified Assistance Dogs. These special companions have transformed the lives of their owners, enabling them to lead a fuller and more independent life.

The dogs themselves vary both in size and breed from little Jack Russell's to large St Bernard’s! From pedigree dogs to cross breeds from rescue centres! Often they are donated by breeders or members of the public.

Whilst our dogs comes from various backgrounds and in all shapes and sizes there are certain breeds that are not suitable for assistance dog work, such as guarding breeds or dogs with a strong tendency to chase.

Whatever their owners disability, all Support Dogs are recognisable by their distinctive blue jacket and lead slips.

If you have, or know of, a puppy or young dog which you think might be suitable for our training programme, please contact a member of our Dog Supply team on 0114 261 7800 or by email at info@supportdogs.org.uk
